Escort Passport 9500i

Escort Passport 9500i

Review by: Mike Herzing

Escort has been at the top of the radar detector food chain for as long as I can remember. They do it with hard work and paying a lot of money to super smart engineers to think of ways to win the radar game. Their latest leap in technology is so far ahead of everyone else, it’s ridiculous.

The Passport 9500i solves the number one industry complaint of false signals. If you have ever owned a radar detector you know how annoying false signals can be. You drive past a certain place and there is a signal that makes your radar detector go nuts, so you either turn it off or tune it out. Escort realized that doing either of these can get you a ticket.

Problem solved: Escort put a GPS init inside the Passport 9500i that allows you to mark and mute the places you usually travel that set the detector off. What you do is, next time you drive past that Walgreens and it goes off, it will remember the location (thanks to the GPS) and the frequency and won’t go off next time you drive by.

Of course if there is a “bogey” in the parking lot, it will sense a different frequency and the 9500i will alert you. The 9500i either alerts you with this sexy voice or the usual buzzes and other noises, it’s your choice. It also has a handy speed alert feature that not only tells you there is a “bogey” but also tells your speed. You can also mark the locations of speed traps and the 9500i warns you the next time you get close.

Of course there are 5 levels of brightness controls, an intelligent volume control that adjusts volume by ambient noise, and a very cool speed sensitivity feature. The 9500i gets more sensitive to threats the faster you travel. That special feature is worth the price of the unit alone.   Escort provides a 2 year warranty on the 9500i and it is fully upgradeable, one of the advantages of having a quality product.
